Orangutan Encounter at Sepilok
Orangutan Encounter at Sepilok
Hear the call of the wild in the forests of Borneo and learn more about
the world’s precious creatures, from orangutans to sun bears and proboscis monkeys.
WHY THIS TOUR?
Learn more about Borneo’s national animal, the orangutan, at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to observe man’s closest relative being rehabilitated into their natural habitat. During the visit a local nature guide and ranger will add insights about the life of the primates and how to care for them. You may also encounter a variety of other wildlife in the forest, such as sun bears and proboscis monkeys.
Visits to the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre contribute to funding the facility’s conservation, research and primate care programmes.
TRAIL ITINERARY
08:00 - 16:00
We transfer from Sandakan Airport, or our Sandakan hotel for 30 minutes to reach the centre. Here we feed the orangutans and take a walk in Borneo’s tropical lowland dipterocarp forest. We continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre that aims to release rescued sun bears into the enclosed forest.
After lunch we visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary in the centre of the mangrove forest near Samawang Village. Here we get the perfect observation spot to view these unique primates that cannot be found anywhere else in the world and we watch them leaping from tree to tree in a superb, fast and stylish movement. Afterwards we transfer to Sandakan Airport for our onwards flight.
