TRAIL ITINERARY
09:00 - 17:00
What better way to start your foodie tour than on the iconic Star Ferry? Since 1888 the green and white ferries have been transporting the locals back and forth across the water. Board at Tsim Sha Tsui and travel over to Victoria Harbour in the Central District, taking in the views of Hong Kong Island’s towering skyscrapers and glitzy malls along the way.
Along with your guide, take a stroll along Hollywood Road passing by art galleries and antique shops. Meander through the historic Sheung Wan District, home to abundant markets and hip restaurants. Ponder over the exotic ingredients in traditional medicine shops and breathe in the pungent aromas from the dried seafood stalls.
All that walking builds up an appetite, so stop in some rustic restaurants for lunch. You get the chance to sample authentic cuisine such as wonton noodles, rocky buns and egg tarts. Observe daily life as you sip tea with the locals in a small tea house, known as Cha Chaan Teng in Chinese.
Fully sated, head out to Kowloon. In the jade market browse stalls laden with jewellery, trinkets, talismans and souvenirs made from jade in all shades of blue, green, turquoise and purple. In the colourful flower market photograph the exotic blossoms and inhale the sweet perfume of the fresh blooms.
The next stop is at the Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, an oasis in the city where a unique part of the local culture can be observed. The locals flock here to meet each other and gossip – and also to take their favourite songbirds for a walk! The final market on your tour is Ladies Market, a great place to pick up bargains, especially clothes and souvenirs.
It’s then time to return to the hotel, or you can choose to stay longer at the market and make your way back to the hotel in your own time.
