Hong Kong’s New Cultural Hub
Hong Kong’s New Cultural Hub
The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) in Hong Kong is a sprawling arts development spanning 400,000 sq-m of reclaimed waterfront land. This ambitious project is the brainchild of the renowned architectural firm Foster and Partners and it aims to create a dynamic cultural hub for Hong Kong that seamlessly integrates art, education and leisure facilities. WKCD boasts an impressive array of venues, including two state-of-the-art museums: the Hong Kong Palace Museum exhibiting Chinese imperial artefacts and M+ Museum showcasing modern and contemporary visual culture.
The Hong Kong Palace Museum stands as a cultural landmark, housing precious artefacts from Beijing’s Palace Museum. It not only offers a glimpse into the history and culture of Imperial China – it also highlights its connections with Hong Kong. Guests can explore Chinese art and culture through audio-guided tours or workshops, gaining a fresh perspective on the captivating blend of Eastern and Western influences. Known not just for housing numerous priceless treasures, the venue also provides stunning views of Victoria Harbour. This makes it the perfect setting for various events, from exhibitions, conferences, and screenings to ceremonies and banquets.
M+ Museum claims the title of Asia’s first global museum of modern and contemporary visual culture, showcasing artworks from the 20th and 21st centuries originating from Hong Kong, Asia and beyond. Housed within the iconic WKCD landmark, M+ boasts a versatile area spanning almost 65,000 sq-m. The venue offers an array of distinctive spaces with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour catering to cultural, corporate or celebratory occasions. Add a unique touch with a guided tour of the art exhibition galleries, private screenings at the cinemas or an artistic workshop at the Learning Hub.
