Historical Melaka Mansion
Historical Melaka Mansion
Once known as Melaka’s Millionaire’s Row, Heeren Street is a charming, old-world thoroughfare with a rich and colourful history. Renamed to Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock in modern times, this thoroughfare is lined with lavish townhouses that reflect the prosperity of the Straits-born Chinese community that settled here in the mid-19th and early-20th centuries.
Blending architectural and cultural influences of the Dutch, Peranakan and Chinese, the buildings have deceptively compact facades that open up to expansive interiors, a design feature that came about as a result of historical taxation polices which were levied according to the width of the building.
Visitors now have an opportunity to step inside the Heeren Mansion for a rare glimpse into Melaka’s past and the lives of the affluent communities that once lived here. The grand old residence creates the perfect backdrop for private events or special celebrations, surrounded by a thoughtfully curated collection of artwork and old-world curios.
