Three Laos cities receive clean-up award
Three destinations in Laos are celebrating recognition of their efforts to provide a cleaner experience for tourists.
Luang Prabang, Pakse and Vieng Xay received the ASEAN Clean Tourist City awards at the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cambodia. This is the second time Luang Prabang, the country’s leading visitor attraction, has received the accolade. The former royal capital was evaluated over 2021 and it met 93 per cent of ASEAN’s clean tourism standards.
To meet targets, all three had to demonstrate a good level of cleanliness in hotels, guesthouses and restaurants. Attractions also had to prove they were clean and in a good condition. Local people have played a major role in maintaining high hygiene standards in their locale.
The ASEAN initiative aims to improve the quality of community-based tourism – a key component of tourism expansion.
