Thailand eases access for MICE visitors
Positioning the country as a global destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE), the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has unveiled the ‘Thailand MICE One Stop Service’ initiative, which will provide enhanced visa services, technology and facilities to support international organisers and visitors.
New visa categories have been introduced, permitting longer periods of stay for MICE organisers and MICE visitors. MICE organisers are eligible for stays of up to 90 days with the possibility of extending up to one year. MICE visitors are eligible for stays of up to 60 days, extendable by an additional 30 days.
The list of nations eligible to enter Thailand without a visa was recently expanded to 93 countries, allowing many travellers to avoid the hassle of applying for a visa if staying in the kingdom for less than 60 days. Additionally, the visa-on-arrival service has been extended to 31 countries.
The initiative will also leverage technology to facilitate smoother entry processes for MICE delegates, such as the new automatic passport control systems and the Advance Passenger Processing System (APPS) to enhance security screening processes.
Dedicated MICE entry lanes and VIP services will also be introduced at the nation’s airports to facilitate the unique needs of MICE groups. These services are currently operational at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports in Bangkok, and will soon be available in Phuket and Chiang Mai, with plans to expand to Udon Thani by 2026.
