Southern gems off the tourist trail

Asian Trails’ exploration of Thailand’s south-west Krabi province revealed two idyllic tropical islands that offer alternative experiences to the kingdom’s more established tourism hotspots.

Our MICE, Product and Charter Manager for South Thailand, Phaitoon Pantip, visited the Andaman Sea islands of Koh Kho Khao and Koh Pha to gather the latest insights on these destinations. Accessed by a short boat ride from Takua Pa, approximately a 20-minute drive north of Khao Lak, these are perfect for those seeking serenity.

Hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Phang Nga Office and the Phuket Travel Agents Association, Phaitoon first explored Koh Kho Khao, travelling in a local-style songtaew to reach pristine beaches, where he enjoyed fresh seafood and southern hospitality.

In the afternoon, Phaitoon continued his adventure with a scenic 15-minute long-tail boat ride to Koh Pha, a small island only visible during the low tide. Known for its postcard-perfect white sands, this is a fantastic spot for snorkelling.

The best time to visit is between November and April, as the islands are inaccessible during the May to October rainy season.
