Asian Trails helps protect coral gardens off Bali

Asian Trails Indonesia is proud to continue its collaboration with Bali Blue Harmony (BBH), a non-government organisation that is helping to raise awareness about marine conservation in Bali.

This year, 24 Asian Trails’ staff took part in a preservation activity, helping to restore the fragile aquatic ecosystems in the waters around Nusa Dua. The team spent the day with their counterparts at BBH, learning to how to tie pieces of coral to make ‘reef stars’. These simple, star-shaped contraptions, when placed underwater, encourage the growth of new coral and support the survival of Indonesia’s diverse marine life.

After building the coral structures, the team donned snorkelling gear to plant a total of four reef stars in the coral garden, complementing the three they embedded in November 2023.

Nusa Dua is a popular destination in Southern Bali, known for its white sands and spectacular ocean vistas. The region continues to expand with new developments and attractions for tourists, making it even more critical to focus on protecting and preserving the area’s natural beauty for future generations.
