New port eases access to islands

The official inauguration of Kampot International Tourism Port on 3 April 2025 will speed up travel to Cambodia’s southern islands.

The US$9.27 million port spans 42,500 sq-m and took five years to complete. It boasts modern customs facilities, commercial spaces, parking and an upgraded 2.3-km access road to Kampot town.

A new high-speed catamaran service operating from the dock will whisk passengers to destinations such as Koh Rong, Koh Rong Sanloem and Koh Sdach in under two hours.

Before embarking on a journey south, visitors can explore Kampot’s rich offerings of 19th century French architecture, cave temples in the surrounding countryside and the mist-covered peaks of nearby Bokor National Park.

Koh Rong Island is a true paradise, boasting 43 km of pristine beachfront along several scenic bays. Just 4-km to the south lies Koh Rong’s sister island, Koh Rong Sanloem, home to the iconic 3-km crescent-shaped Saracen Bay Beach. Similarly, Koh Sdach is perfect for those seeking serenity and solitude.
