Famed for its fresh and healthy cuisine grown in a tropical paradise, Laos is a foodie’s dream. A new excursion provides instruction into the secrets behind the creation of some of the country’s most famous dishes.The venue is Pakbeng Lodge, an idyllic sanctuary situated midway between the World Heritage town of Luang Prabang and Huay Xai, the main border crossing between Northern Thailand and Northern Laos. Freshness is the key theme and the cooking class starts with a tour of the Lodge’s organic farm.
This is followed by exploration of the local market where the head chef will select the freshest ingredients, with an insight provided into each selection. On the return to the Lodge, it is time to start the lesson under expert supervision. After cooking the set menu, participants sit down to sample delicious food and this is eaten alongside the mighty Mekong River.
