Asian Trails staff meet true rock stars
Our team in Laos enjoyed the opportunity to explore new trails in the south of the country, an educational experience that revealed less touristic destinations.
Staff headed to the laid-back city of Pakse where they viewed a community of artisans craft awe-inspiring sculptures from stone. Situated just 30 minutes’ drive from Pakse city centre, the stone carving enclave, known as Chomphet Village, is a genuine local experience, way off the tourist trail.
Visitors can stroll through quiet streets where artisans spend their days chiselling, sanding and grinding unique and often large, rock sculptures. These craftspeople are very happy to demonstrate age-old practices, using traditional tools. As a side trip, visitors can explore the nearby Wat Chomphet Temple Complex. This spectacular site sits atop a hill, overlooking sprawling serene scenery.
