Lao Art Museum opens in Vientiane

The world’s largest museum of Lao art has officially opened its doors in the capital Vientiane.

Featuring an impressive collection of wood carvings, paintings and traditional crafts, the Lao Art Museum showcases the unique styles and perspectives of highly-skilled Lao artisans.

Spanning an area of 0.8 sq-km, the museum is housed in a multi-purpose complex, with an exhibition hall, reception area, observation tower, accommodation and dining facilities.

With a strong focus on art, culture and conservation, the facility is poised to become a major tourist attraction, offering both an enriching educational experience and a space to preserve Laos’ rich cultural heritage.

Construction began in 2021 with a budget of more than US$50 million. Besides boosting Vientiane’s tourism potential, the museum will generate revenue for local businesses and create hundreds of jobs.
