Hoi An’s iconic bridge to reopen in August 2024
The Japanese Covered Bridge in Vietnam’s central city of Hoi An is set to reopen in early August 2024.
The iconic 17th century landmark underwent an extensive two-year renovation in which every element was addressed, from the bridge’s foundation to its wooden frame and roof.
Restoration teams made every effort to ensure the landmark’s cultural charm would remain intact while preserving its structural integrity for future generations to enjoy.
Visitors will soon be able to view the results of the restoration work which cost an estimated 20 billion Vietnamese Dong (USD$790,000).
The reopening of the bridge coincides with the 20th Hoi An–Japan Cultural Exchange, an annual event that celebrates the strong ties between the city and its East-Asian neighbour country.
