New train transports passengers across Thai-Lao border
Last week saw the launch of a new international rail route connecting Thailand with Laos and China. The inaugural journey departed from the Thai capital of Bangkok on 19 July 2024 at 9.25 pm and arrived in Vientiane, Laos the following day at 9.05 am. Once in the Lao capital, passengers can easily connect with the Laos-China rail network which transports passengers through Central and Northern Laos into China’s Yunnan province.
The landmark journey marked a major leap forward in cross-border train services in Asia, setting the stage for a new era of travel. Passengers can now explore new, lesser-seen trails across the region and enjoy the slow travel experience with ever-changing views of rural Thai and Lao landscapes along the way.
The return journey departs from Vientiane at 9.35 am and arrives in Bangkok at 7.30 am the next day. Start planning a tailor-made journey or contact our team for more details at Asian Trails Laos
