Epic adventure along fabled river
A voyage down the Nam Ou River takes explorers down one of the most important waterways in Laos.
The river holds a cherished place in folklore as the route taken by warrior-king Fa Ngum as he travelled towards Luang Prabang to claim the throne and establish the ‘Land of a Million Elephants’. It rises on the Chinese frontier, flows south for 380-km through the dramatic gorges and sprawling valleys of Northern Laos and joins with the mighty Mekong at Ban Pak Ou.
Available as a full-day or multi-day option, this navigation reveals some of the country’s most spectacular scenery. Stops en route include picturesque hill tribe villages and mysterious caves in limestone cliffs.
