Asian Trails offers gold standard community-based tourism in Thailand
A community-based tourism project on Thailand’s central coast has been identified by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) as a model community for agro-tourism.
Nestled beside the Prasae River, about three hours’ drive from Bangkok, the Baan Talay Noi community has been recognised as the only cultivators of burweed in Thailand. The community is included as part of Asian Trails’ 3 Days Rural Life in Rayong tour, an immersive programme that received a Thailand Tourism Gold Award in 2023 in recognition of its contribution to responsible and sustainable tourism.
Our tour takes guests into the community to learn about their way of life and gain insights into their agricultural traditions, such as making salted fish and planting burweed. During the visit, guests enjoy authentic home-cooked dishes and witness traditional hat-making, where community members craft woven hats, which they use in their agricultural activities.
