China announces significant changes to visa-free travel
Expanding on its move towards greater connectivity and global exchange, China has announced significant changes to its visa-free travel policy. The changes will benefit travellers from 38 nations.
Previously, citizens from eligible countries were permitted to stay in China without a visa for up to 15 days. Under the revamped policy, effective from 30 November 2024 until 31 December 2025, the visa-free stay period will be extended to 30 days.
The new policy will also cover visits for exchange purposes, in addition to business, tourism, and visiting friends and family.
Nine countries were also added to the list of eligible countries. These are Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Japan, Latvia, Malta, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Romania.
These nations join a list of countries already eligible for visa-free travel in China, including Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain and Switzerland.
Travellers who do not meet the visa-free entry requirements must still apply for a visa before travelling to China. For more information, contact Asian Trails China
