Celebrating Laos’ fragrant sticky rice
This week, Laos is putting the spotlight on one of its most important agricultural products – khao kai noi rice. Recognised for its flavour and quality, the fragrant sticky rice is being celebrated at the annual Khao Kai Noi Festival, which takes place this year from 25 to 30 November 2024. The exact dates vary from year to year.
Held in Xieng Khouang Province, where the majority of this special sticky rice is grown, the festival brings a range of cultural and culinary events that showcase the unique qualities of khao kai noi rice, as well as the region’s agricultural traditions. Visitors will enjoy a traditional rice baci ceremony, cooking contests, replica rice haystacks and an exhibition on the famous Plain of Jars. The activities will culminate with a concert at the provincial museum.
The cool climate of Xieng Khouang Province creates the ideal environment for this special crop to grow. To learn more about tours in the province or to plan a visit for next year’s event, contact our team at Asian Trails Laos
