Celebrating 50 years of reunion
On 30 April 2025, Vietnam marks 50 years since reunification – a historic event that united the North and South and shaped the nation’s future. Ho Chi Minh City is celebrating with a vibrant programme of cultural events, including artistic performances, drone displays, fireworks and a grand parade.
Festivities began on 19 April with a spectacular flying show featuring over 2,000 drones. A record-breaking 10,500-drone display is planned for the evening of 30th April, illuminating the skies over District 1 and Thu Duc City.
The city’s streets and buildings are decked with flags and flowers as locals embrace the festive spirit. A boat procession will light up the Saigon River with southern folk music and water-based performances, such as flyboarding and paragliding.
Highlights leading up to the anniversary include a 3D mapping projection on City Hall, a photo and film exhibition and artistic performances.
On 29th April, solemn ceremonies will be held to honour the nation’s heroes and pay tribute to Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Ton Duc Thang. On the morning of 30th April, a national commemoration ceremony will take place at 6.30 am, followed by a grand parade involving military, civilian and international participants. The celebrations will culminate in a fireworks display at 9 pm, lighting up the sky from 30 locations across the city. With over 10,000 local and international visitors expected to attend, this impressive event will highlight the nation’s spirit of unity, resilience and hope for the future.
