Discovering Cambodian cuisine with Chef Nak
Discovering Cambodian cuisine with Chef Nak
Cambodia’s culinary queen, Chef Rotanak Ros, also known as Chef Nak, received high honours at the 29th Gourmand Awards in November 2023. Her book, SAOY – Royal Cambodian Home Cuisine received first prize in the ‘Best of the Best Books’ category, out-ranking chefs and authors from 205 participating countries.
Chef Nak is on a lifelong mission to restore and celebrate Cambodia’s culinary heritage, an art which was almost lost during the Khmer Rouge era. Asian Trails’ guests in Phnom Penh can join the quest and learn the art of Khmer cooking during a culinary workshop. Alternatively, guests can visit the chef’s garden home for a personalised dining experience, discovering local ingredients and hearing stories about the community while feasting on a delicious home-cooked meal.
Another option is to stay overnight in the chef’s 100-year-old wooden house. This is a great opportunity to immerse in real Cambodian life while interacting with the family and community. The house offers three guest rooms, each with a king-size bed.
