Cambodian villagers get safe water supply
Through our Refillable Water Bottle Initiative, Asian Trails has helped over 200 Cambodian villagers to gain access to clean water.
Our contribution of US$4,050 to Water for Cambodia enabled the installation of 40 biosand water filters in Kouk Srok Village in Prasat Bakong, a district of Siem Reap province. Installed on the 8th and 14th July 2024, the cost-effective filtration units have the ability to produce clean drinking water from contaminated sources.
While having access to clean water is something many take for granted, it is unfortunately a rare commodity for those living in remote areas of Cambodia.
“It is important to realise that many people do not have access to clean water in their homes and we can have such a big impact by helping to facilitate this,” said Ameer Virani, Asian Trails’ Sustainability Manager.
“Having direct access to clean water not only makes lives easier for these families, it also helps to mitigate many health- and finance-related issues. Children are less likely to become ill from drinking contaminated water and therefore are able to attend school more regularly. Adults can also work and earn more consistently, saving time and money from fewer doctors’ visits.”
By making the choice to travel with us, Asian Trails’ guests have an opportunity to contribute to our Refillable Water Bottle Initiative. For every refillable bottle given to a guest in any of our destinations in South-East Asia, US$1 is put towards a plastic reduction, recycling or clean water project.
Water for Cambodia is a non-profit NGO that is committed to building and installing biosand water filters in Cambodian homes and villages.
Asian Trails remains committed to making a difference through travel. To find out more about our Refillable Water Bottle Initiative and other responsible travel programmes, read our 2023 Sustainability Report or visit our website
