Boosting community-based tourism in Cambodia
Boosting community-based tourism in Cambodia
Small in size but big in delivery, the Chi Phat Commune has taken a huge leap forward to become a leading exponent of community-based-tourism.
The collective is located deep within the Cardamom Mountains in south-west Cambodia. The sparse population of 600 live in four villages situated amid stunning peaks, rivers and wetlands, an area that is home to diverse and vibrant wildlife. Led by locally trained guides, the Chi Phat Visitor Centre provides an abundance of exciting eco-tourism based tours across South-East Asia’s largest tract of continuous rainforest. Activities include cycling, birdwatching, hiking and boat trips.
These are conducted with sympathetic environmental conservation approaches and sustainable support for the local population so future generations can make a living from planet-friendly excursions.
