Bangkok’s train network expansion underway
Bangkok’s public transport network is on track to have a new addition later this year, with the planned opening of the overhead MRT Yellow Line.
The elevated 30 km route will feature 23 stations and be linked to another six lines, including the Airport Rail Link and the BTS Sukhumvit Line that runs into the city centre. Construction started in late 2017 on a track that will connect Lat Phrao in the northern suburbs with Samut Prakan Province, south of the city, near to the mouth of the Chao Phraya River.
Besides easing traffic congestion, the line will provide easy access to tourist attractions in Samut Prakan, such as the Ancient City, a sprawling outdoor attraction with scaled-down replicas of historic temples and palaces and the Erawan Museum, a facility which features fine arts displays.
