Bangkok’s Bang Sue Grand Station on track to open
The rapid expansion of Bangkok’s rail infrastructure has been enhanced with a new central terminus that holds the title of South-East Asia’s largest transportation hub.
Due to open in November 2021, Bang Sue Grand Station will service Thailand’s first high-speed rail line, conventional long-haul routes and inner-city services, including airport connections. Projected to handle 70,000 passengers daily, the facility contains four levels, 12 platforms and 24 tracks and it can accommodate 40 trains simultaneously across an area the size of 40 football pitches.
It will replace Hua Lumpong Station, Thailand’s railway hub since its opening in 1916. Relevant Asian Trails’ programmes have incorporated this network transformation.
