Bangkok canal street wins UN accolade
A happening Bangkok street has received global recognition from the United Nations for positive urban renewal.
The Klong Ong Art Walking Street, a joint effort between tourism officials and city administrators, is a recipient of the UN-Habitat Award. Besides food and market stalls, the thoroughfare in the ‘old town’ features street art that depicts the mixed character of the locality. Visitors are also entertained by musicians and street entertainers. The street is part of a moat that was dug after King Rama I established Bangkok as the new Thai capital in 1782.
The walking street takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4-10 pm.
