Asian Trails digs deeper at secluded Khmer shrines
The desire for more remote temple exploration beyond the Angkor Archaeological Park’s mainstream attractions has led to the creation of a new Asian Trails’ excursion.
Guests are conveyed by tuk-tuk and accompanied by a guide to the 9th century, pre-Angkor era sites of Prei Montie and Totung Thngai. Part of the Roluos group of temples, these are the oldest shrines in Cambodia. They are hidden in a forest that surrounds the first capital city of the Khmer Empire. Prei Montie is a small site of three brick towers atop a sandstone base, with a small decorated stone basin at the entrance.
After exploration, a picnic lunch is eaten in a tranquil location.
