A rich taste of Hong Kong’s history
A rich taste of Hong Kong’s history
City Cafe is a social enterprise project funded by the Social Welfare Department to create jobs for people with disabilities.
It is located inside the expansive Hong Kong Museum of History, a facility that provides an insight into the island’s past. The exhibits detail the prehistoric era, the Opium Wars and military occupation during the Second World War. The cafe’s interior reflects the style of cha chaan tengs. These traditional venues are a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s culinary culture because of the affordable comfort food they provide in modest settings.
A politician said their importance to the island’s daily life deserves UNESCO cultural listing.
