Asian Trails backs bid to save the seas

Asian Trails is supporting Sungai Watch’s mission to protect Indonesia’s waterways by installing river barriers that prevent plastic pollution from entering oceans.

Our donation of USD$3,719 is helping fund the expansion of this environmental initiative into new regions, with over 300 river barriers now installed nationwide. The collected waste is transported to a central sorting facility, where it is categorised into 30 types of products for recycling.

Sungai Watch extended its project to Sidoarjo, a town south of Surabaya in East Java. However, the NGO’s operations in this location were impeded by poor access roads. To overcome this, we helped with the purchase of a Viar motorbike, a vehicle that can reach areas inaccessible to cars and trucks.

To date, the use of the motorbike has enabled approximately 8,200 kg of waste to be collected.
