Uncovering the ancient art of Angkorian silk
Silk weaving has played an important role in Cambodian society for over a thousand years. It is intricately tied to the Khmer Empire that flourished from the 11th to the 13th centuries. This cherished tradition has been passed down by skilled artisans and refined through generations.
Asian Trails’ guests can once again witness the delicate art of silk-making at the Angkor Silk Farm in Siem Reap after this attraction reopened after several years of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The farm’s workshop not only showcases unique, high-quality crafts, it also empowers local artisans and preserves Cambodia’s silk-making heritage for future generations.
During a hands-on workshop, guests learn how to make eco-friendly dyes from natural ingredients, such as flowers, herbs and plants grown in the garden. Skilled artisans demonstrate the art of weaving on traditional looms, crafting unique pieces that showcase intricate patterns deeply rooted in Khmer mythology and culture.
Located near West Baray, a large reservoir dating back to the Angkorian period, the farm welcomes visitors daily. For more information or to start planning your next journey to Cambodia, contact our team at Asian Trails Cambodia
