Hai Van Gate reopens in Central Vietnam

The historical Hai Van Gate, located on the scenic Hai Van Pass in Central Vietnam, has reopened to visitors following an extensive three-year renovation.

Dating back to the 13th century Tran Dynasty, the gate is recognised as a national relic, having once served as a military post marking the boundary between the city of Danang and Thua Thien Hue Province.

The VND 42 billion (USD $1.6 million) project has resulted in improvements to the site’s main gate, watch tower, armoury, fortifications and pathways. Significant work was done to preserve the Nguyen Dynasty design and details, including the use of traditional clay bricks fired at a low temperature.
