Asian Trails gives back to a Cambodian community
During a recent corporate social responsibility (CSR) event at Tonle Sap Lake, our Cambodia team met with residents of a floating village to discuss tourism activities. The interaction enabled villagers to give feedback on their participation in our tours. Likewise, our staff gained improved product knowledge about Tonle Sap excursions. They also shared details about our sustainable tourism approaches so both parties can work more effectively to protect the local environment.
Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in South-East Asia and it contains one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. It was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997. The CSR day got underway with an illuminating talk by villagers about life in their unique floating community.
After presenting them with gifts, including school bags, toiletries and snacks, the entire group used paddle boats to explore a nearby mangrove forest, an important environmental resource the villagers are proud custodians of.
