Textiles collective boosts the fabric of society
As part of a commitment to social enterprise initiatives, Asian Trails’ Vietnam is supporting Mekong Quilts through the latter’s integration into tour programmes.
The non-profit institution provides an income for marginalised women across both Vietnam and Cambodia. The collective produces bed fabrics, cushions and even bamboo bikes. Creating these products requires a minor investment, enabling the women to work from home and be closer to their families. This has enabled the initiative to employ over 100 women in rural areas and increase their standard of living.
Besides this direct economic benefit, all profits are used to support the wider community through scholarships and health, hygiene and agricultural education programmes.
