Private Full Day Banteay Chhmar
Step off the well-trodden temple trail at remote Banteay Chhmar. From the hotel, we take a scenic drive to Banteay Chhmar, a rarely visited temple that sits to the north-west of Angkor Wat (150 km). It served as one of the capitals of Jayavarman II, who dedicated it to his son and four generals who were killed in a battle repelling a Cham invasion in 1177. Because of its secluded location, very few visitors make it to the site, meaning we have it pretty much all to ourselves. After exploring the temple, we head to Les soieries du Mekong, a French NGO that provides training to young Cambodians in an effort to revive the ancient Khmer tradition of silk weaving. We can meet the talented weavers and learn about the traditional techniques used to produce the luxurious fabric. After lunch at a local restaurant, we return to Siem Reap.
